Senner#
Senner (Sennerin - feminine form), designation derived from an Alpine word of pre-Roman origin (sanio = shepherd) for persons responsible for alpine pasture husbandry (particularly cattle) on Alms and for processing and delivering milk. In the past, the Senners were accorded a different status from people who lived in the valleys because they were said to possess intricate knowledge of natural forces (e.g. medicinal herbs, weather rules). Meanwhile, modern technologies have become established in Alpine Pasture Husbandry. The Senner and Sennerin also sell products to hikers and climbers in the mountains, etc.
