Silvretta Mountains, glacier-covered crystalline massif of the Central Alps, southeast of the Raetikon Mountains in the border region of Austria (Tyrol, Vorarlberg) and Switzerland. Principal peaks: Grosser Piz Buin (3,312 m), Silvrettahorn (3,244 m) and Dreilaenderspitze (3,197 m). Three large water reservoirs of the Vorarlberger Illwerke AG. The most important mountain passes are Schlappiner Joch (2,202 m) and Bielerhoehe (2,037 m). Skiing area. Mountain refuges: Saarbrueckener Huette (2,538 m), Wiesbadner Huette (2,443 m), Tuebinger Huette (2,191 m), etc.
