Soldatenfriedhöfe#
War Cemeteries: During World War I Austrian war cemeteries were laid out in Carinthia and East Tirol (in Hochgrenten, Neuwinkl and near Lake Obstans, in the district of Kartitsch), in South Tirol and near the Isonzo front (Redipuglia). The soldiers of the Wehrmacht (the armed forces of Nazi Germany) who were killed in Austria at the end of World War II were transferred to cemeteries (e.g. in Oberwoelbling, Retz, St. Poelten) which were maintained by the Schwarzes Kreuz organisation. Under the Austrian State Treaty, war cemeteries of the Soviet army are maintained by the Austrian authorities. There are also war cemeteries near former prisoner-of-war camps and some even date back to the Napoleonic Wars.
