Sorbait, Paul#
b. Montblyart (Belgium), 1624, d. Vienna, April 29, 1691, physician. Professor of medicine at the University of Vienna from 1654, rector 1668. physician in ordinary to the dowager empress Eleonore; recognized the danger of the Pest plague at an early stage and hence was able prevent it from developing into a full-blown epidemic. Concentrated on botany and anatomy and founded the first medical library at the university of Vienna; 1679 chief investigator in plague cases.
