Sowitsch, Stefan#

Sowitsch, Stefan, b. Stockerau (Lower Austria), Sept. 14, 1883, d. Vienna, April 2, 1970, engineer and entrepreneur. 1914 founded a lift factory in Vienna, in the period between World War I and World War II successfully co-operated with a Swiss company. After 1945 developed his business to become the Austrian market leader (e.g. rapid lifts in the ´Donauturm´ tower). Manufacturing plants in Vienna, Scheibbs (Lower Austria) and Voecklabruck (Upper Austria). 1970 by fusion with the Finnish company ´Kone´ became ´Kone-Sowitsch AG´.
