Spiegel, Sam (correct: Samuel Spiegelglass), b. Jaroslav, Poland (then Jaroslau), Nov. 11, 1903, d. St. Martin (Antilles), Dec. 31, 1985, film producer. After his youth in Vienna decided to move to the USA, where he earned his living as a cloth merchant; from 1929 manager of the European head office of Universal Pictures in Berlin; 1933 started to produce his own films in Vienna, London and Paris. In 1939 emigrated to the USA and from 1941 worked in Hollywood. producer of famous films such as "African Queen" (1951), "On the Waterfront" (1954), "The Bridge on the River Kwai" (1957), "Lawrence of Arabia" (1962) and "The Last Tycoon" (1976).
