St. Jakob im Rosental, Carinthia, market town in the district of Villach-Land, alt. 460 m, pop. 4,407, area 78.71 km2, summer tourist resort (60,586 overnight stays in 1992) situated near the confluence of the Rosenbach stream and the River Drau, Rosenbach. - Advanced-level commercial school run by Schulschwestern religious order, Rosegg-St. Jakob power plant; processing of wood and metal. - Romanesque-Gothic parish church, choir (15th century), only original parts of the church remaining after a fire in 1972; filial church at St. Oswald (around 1520); Gothic pilgrimage church of Maria Elend, remodelled in Baroque style, fresco (1731), high altar (around 1760), late Gothic winged altar (1510), Gothic statues.
