Stiassny, Wilhelm, b. Bratislava, Slovakia (then Pressburg), Oct. 15, 1842, d. Bad Ischl (Upper Austria), June 16, 1910, architect. One of the busiest and most experienced architects in Vienna; 1867-1877 Director of the industrial association of Lower Austria, active member of the Jewish community in Vienna, had many Jewish clients (e.g. Rothschild); co-founder and long term president of the architectural association "Wiener Bauhuette". Built numerous residential homes (e.g. Weihburggasse 30, in the 1st district of Vienna, 1872), hospitals, schools (e.g. "Polnische Schule" in Vienna, 1893, destroyed 1938), factories, monuments, synagogues as well as the Jewish ceremonial hall of Vienna´s main cemetery ´Zentralfriedhof´ (1877-1879).
