Stobaeus von Palmburg, Georg, b. Braunsberg (Germany), 1532, d. Toellersberg near Voelkermarkt (Carinthia), Oct. 23, 1618, theologian. Dean of the cathedral chapter of Brixen/Bressanone, 1584 reformist bishop in the spirit of the Council of Trent for the diocese of Lavant; adviser of Ferdinand II, appointed governor of the "inner provinces" of Austria, 1597-1609 responsible for Counter Reformation measures in these provinces.
