Strasser, Artur#
Strasser, Artur, b. Postojna, Slovenia (then Adelsberg), April 8, 1854, d. Vienna, Nov. 8, 1927, sculptor. Studied at the Vienna College of Fine Arts, worked in the studio of V. Tilgner, 1881-1883 in Paris on a grant, 1892 journey to Egypt, 1899-1919 teacher at the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts. The polychromy of his terracotta figures and bronzes made them appear very true to life; often depicted Oriental characters; created the group of bronze figures "Marc Anton mit Loewengespann" (1899/1900), today situated next to the "Secession" building in Vienna.
