From 1981 to 1983 in the Austrian Farmers' Association, from 1983 to 1987 in the Upper Austrian Farmers' Association, from 1987 to 1990 secretary to the Minister of Agriculture and Vice-Chancellor J. Riegler; from 1992 to 1998, Party Secretary of the OeVP of Lower Austria, from 1993 Member of the Lower Austrian Diet (from 1998 head of the OeVP group); since 2000 Federal Minister of the Interior.
