Stubaital#
Stubai Valley, Tirol, 40 km long lateral valley of the Wipptal Valley in the Stubai Alps, extending from Schoenberg im Stubaital (alt. 1,013 m) in a south-westerly direction; popular summer and winter resort. The River Ruetz, rising at the Noerdlicher Daunkogel mountain (3,075 m), drains the Stubai valley. Up to the main village of Fulpmes (alt. 937 m, traditional small iron industry and tools industry) the settlements on both sides of the gorge formed by the Ruetz are located on terraces; at Fulpmes the terraces converge to form the bottom of the valley. South of Neustift im Stubaital (alt. 993 m) the valley of the Ruetz is called Unterbergtal. At Milders (alt. 1,026 m) the Oberbergtal branches off to the west. The Langental valley (south of Ranalt, 1,303 m) is another lateral valley. Other villages in the Stubai valley: Kroessbach (alt. 1,101 m), Neder (alt. 970 m), Kampl (alt. 978 m), Medraz (alt. 922 m), Telfes im Stubai (alt. 987 m) and Mieders (alt. 953 m). The valley of the river Ruetz is accessible up to the Mutterbergalm mountain via the "Stubaier Gletscherstrasse" mountain road; the Stubai Valley railway runs from Innsbruck along the edge of the Wipptal valley to Fulpmes in the Stubai valley; a run-of-river power station (16 MW) is operated near Fulpmes.
