Tennengebirge#
Tennengebirge Mountains, province of Salzburg, karstic plateau in the Salzburg Limestone Alps with many caves, situated east of the River Salzach, north of the Fritzbach stream and south of the River Lammer (Lammer-Oefen gorge), separated from the Hagengebirge Mountains by the Lueg Pass; numerous dome-shaped mountain tops, depressions, caves and dolines; made up mainly of Dachstein Limestone; highest elevations: Raucheck, alt. 2430 m, and Bleikogel, alt. 2411 m. The Tennengebirge Mountains are well known for their ice caves ( Eisriesenwelt). Several mountain refuges. Nature and landscape protection area since 1982.
