Tesla, Nikola#
b. Smiljan (Croatia), July 10, 1856, d. New York (USA), Jan. 8, 1943, inventor. 1884, after his studies at the Joanneum college in Graz, joined T. Edison in New York; 1887 set up the Tesla Electric Company and invented the three-phase system, which, exploited by Westinghouse 1888, became outstandingly important. The unit of magnetic flux density (induction), Tesla, is named after him.
