Thököly von Késmark, Emmerich Imre#

b. Kezmarok, Slovakia (then Kaesmark), April 25, 1657, d. Izmit, Turkey (then Nicomedia), Sept. 13, 1705, Hungarian magnate, opponent of Habsburg rule. Since his father István Thoekoely (d. Nov. 23, 1670) was ostracized for having participated in the Magnates' Conspiracy, Thoekoely fled to Transylvania. 1678 led the Hungarian rebels who called themselves "Kuruc" ( Kuruc Invasions) in the war against the Habsburgs and formed an alliance with the Turks. After their defeat at Vienna (1683) lost most of his followers; went to Turkey, as commander of the Ottoman cavalry participated in the battle of Zenta (1697) and 1699 was sent into exile to Nicomedia in Asia Minor. 1906 his mortal remains were transferred to Kezmarok.
