Livestock Diseases (epizootic diseases) in Austria: Foot-and-mouth disease occurred in 1981 for the last time. Vaccination was generally abolished as of April 1991. Hog cholera, bovine leukosis, bovine tuberculosis and bovine brucellosis are rare (3 cows were infected with tuberculosis in 1999). The occurrence of rabies has also been reduced to a low level: in 1999 rabies was diagnosed in 5 animals (3 foxes, 1 deer, 1 dog). In 1991 a vaccination campaign was started for foxes (with vaccine baits). In 1999 the IBR-IPV virus occurred in 46 head of cattle. Ajueszky´s disease has been eliminated in pigs through the implementation of elimination and monitoring measures.
