Treitz Trytz, Treutz, Trewcs, Plattnerfamilie#
Treitz (Trytz, Treutz, Trewcs), name of a well-known Tirolean family of armourers from Muehlau near Innsbruck. Five individuals from three generations worked as armourers: Konrad Treitz (1452-1469) founded the famous armourer´s workshop in the 15th century, which was to serve the court in Innsbruck and the Imperial Court for almost 150 years. Konrad Treitz had three sons who also worked as armourers: Joerg Treitz (1466-1499), Christian Treitz (1484-1487) and Adrian Treitz (1473-1492). Joerg Treitz, who probably took over the workshop from his father and who became a friend and advisor of Archduke Sigmund, was the most famous of the three brothers. In the third generation Konrad Treitz the Younger (1498-1536) and Adrian Treitz the Younger (in 1500, d. 1529) continued the tradition. The family, who originally came from Trazzo on the River Adda between Milan and Bergamo, introduced important technical improvements when they came to Innsbruck, such as the hardening of armour components.
