Trinitarier#
Trinitarians (Order of the Most Holy Trinity for the Redemption of Captives) (OSST), Roman Catholic order founded in France in 1193 by John of Matha to free Christian slaves from captivity under the Muslims, officially recognised by the Pope in 1198. The Trinitarians, who also devoted themselves to teaching, pastoral work and serving in hospitals, were called to Vienna in 1688; their order was dissolved in Austria in 1783 but came back to Vienna in 1900. Religious establishments of the Trinitarians at Moedling-Vorderbruehl near Vienna (students´ home, rehabilitation centre) and in Vienna´s second district (parish and hospice).
