Tritonius Athesinus, Petrus lateinischer Name für Peter Treibenraiff#

b. Bozen/Bolzano (South Tyrol), around 1465, d. probably Hall in Tirol, 1525, humanist, composer. Studied at the Universities of Vienna and Ingolstadt, where he met K. Celtis, who encouraged him to set the odes of Horace to music; teacher at Latin schools (Brixen/Bressanone, Bozen/Bolzano and Schwaz); Called to Vienna by Celtis in 1503. After the death of Celtis, T. went back to Tyrol after spending some time in Augsburg. Probably died in 1525 of the plague. T. is probably the most significant representative of the "humanist-ode". His "Hymnarius" (1524) is the oldest hymn-book in German language.
