Umlauf, Carl#
b. Baden (Lower Austria), Sept. 9, 1824, d. Vienna, Feb. 25, 1902, zither-player, composer and teacher. Created the "Viennese zither" (as opposed to the Bavarian zither). Founded and directed the first public zither school; after a very successful concert tour through Europe in 1844 he was named Imperial Court Musician.
