Unken#

Unken, province of Salzburg, municipality in the district of Zell am See, alt. 563 m, pop. 1,920, area 108.84 km2, summer and winter tourist resort (154,537 overnight stays in 1992) near the Bavarian border. - Steinpass border control post, forest administration, education centre (Oberrain Palace), recreation centre; wood industry, production of shutterings. - Baroque parish church (1758-1760, belonged to St. Zeno Abbey in Reichenhall up to 1803) with Rococo stucco decorations; Baroque filial church (built 1670, enlarged 1713) in Reit; Oberrain Palace (documented mention 14th  century, altered 19th  century); local museum in the "Kalkofengut" (old farmstead); Kniepass Fortress (built 1648, today museum). In the vicinity, Loewenquelle, Kalte Quelle and other springs.
