Urwald#
Primeval Forest, Lower Austria, virgin montane mixed forest in the "Rothwald" forest, in the Northern Limestone Alps, south of Lunz am See, consisting of 2 parts (large and small primeval forests); with almost 300 hectares the largest remains of a primeval forest in Central Europe. Contains firs and spruces, some of which are over 50 m high and more than 500 years old, having girths of up to 4.8 m, and European beeches over 35 m high and more than 400 years old, with girths of up to 2.8 m. Another, definitely virgin rest of a primeval forest, 20 hectares large, is "Neuwald" in the region around Lahnsattel pass (municipal area of St. Aegyd, Lower Austria), near the Styrian border.
