Waagner-Biro Binder AG#

Waagner-Biro Binder AG, one of the largest Austrian businesses in the iron and steel working industry. Originally founded by the ironmonger Rudolf P. Waagner and the locksmith Anton Biró in Vienna in 1854, who merged the firms in 1904 and carried on business as Waagner-Biró AG from 1924-1998. In 1999 Waagner-Biró AG and Binder + Co AG (both subsidiaries of Auricon Beteiligungs AG) merged to form Waagner-Biró Binder AG. Sites in Vienna, Gleisdorf (Styria), United Kingdom and Hungary. Their range of business activities includes steel and glass engineering, construction of bridges, stage technology and processing technology. The shipbuilding company OeSWAG Werft Linz Ges. m. b. H. belongs to Waagner-Biró Binder AG. The following constructions were built by the Waagner-Biró AG in Austria: Europabruecke bridge in Tirol, Murbruecke bridge in Graz, Lehener Bruecke bridge in Salzburg, Guertel and Nordbahn bridges in Vienna, floodgates for Danube power stations, the façade of the Andromeda Tower in Vienna, stage machinery for the Vienna State Opera and the Salzburg Festspielhaus theatre, numerous cable railways and in Berlin (Germany) the steel and glass cupola of the Reichstag building. Turnover (1998): ATS 3,270 million; 2,000 employees.
