Waniek, Herbert#
Waniek, Herbert, b. Vienna, Oct. 17, 1897, d. Vienna, May 11, 1949. Actor, director. In 1921 he directed for the first time at the Deutsches Theater in Bruenn (Brno), in 1922 at the Deutsches Volkstheater in Vienna; in 1924 actor at the Theater in der Josefstadt in Vienna under M. Reinhardt, 1926 co-founder of the "Theater des Neuen" and director of matinee performances of modern dramas at the Theater in der Josefstadt; 1927 actor, director and head of production at the Zurich Schauspielhaus theatre, 1930 head of production in Essen, 1931 again at the Zurich Schauspielhaus; 1933-1949 director at the Burgtheater in Vienna (66 productions).
