Weiler, Siedlungsform#

Weiler (hamlet), type of small settlement in rural areas, comprises at least three, but not more than 10-15 neighbouring houses and farmsteads. "Weiler" is something between an Einhof type of farmstead and a group settlement. There are many weilers in Austria and very often they date back to the early medieval practice of acquiring land for settlement by clearing away the trees.
