Welser Heide#
Welser Heide Plain, Upper Austria, plain on the lower reaches of the River Traun, stretches from Lambach to Hoersching (Linz airport); formerly a mostly unproductive plain of sand and rubble, which only became fertile after centuries of fertilisation with a special tertiary marl (German: Schlier); today the Welser Heide Plain is quite densely populated and forms part of the settlement area along the axis from Linz to Wels, which is the centre of that area. The western railway crosses the Welser Heide Plain, the Westautobahn (A 1 motorway) runs south of it.
