Wertheim, Ernst#

b. Graz (Styria), Feb. 21, 1864, d. Vienna, Feb. 15, 1920, bacteriologist and gynaecologist. Professor at the University of Vienna from 1899. Developed new surgical techniques in the field of gynaecology, esp. the abdominal radical operation for cervical carcinoma, the first successful treatment of cancer.
