b. Klagenfurt, Carinthia, April 28, 1939, physician, gerontologist. Worked at the State University of New York, Buffalo (USA) from 1967 to 1970 and at the University of Vienna from 1971 to 1974. Since 1974 Full Professor at the University of Innsbruck (since 1997 Head of the Department of General and Experimental Pathology), also, since 1991, Director of the Institute of Biomedical Gerontology of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. Focuses in particular on problems of autoimmunity and aging.
