Wiener Festwochen#
Vienna Festival, founded during the allied occupation of Vienna in 1951 as a "demonstration of the Austrian will for self-determination"; cultural events (music drama, dance and dramatic theatre, concerts and exhibitions) are held for five weeks, mainly in May and June. The management is in charge of the cultural programme, subsidies are granted by the municipality of Vienna. Festival productions, co-productions and international performances have been staged at the Theater an der Wien since 1962, other events have, for example been staged at the Messepalast ( Museum Quarter) every year from 1985-1997. Annual performances at the Messepalast are expected to be resumed from 2001. Additional facilities, which change every year, are also used.
