Wienerberger Baustoffindustrie AG, founded by A. Miesbach in 1819, quoted on the stock exchange for more than 125 years. One of the highlights in the history of the company was the era of construction of magnificent buildings on the Ringstrasse. Influential personalities include H. Drasche-Wartinberg, H. v. Ferstel and V. Adler. Since 1986 it has developed from an Austrian brickworks company into an international group of companies with more than 200 factories in almost all European countries, the USA and Asia. Its main production areas are wall, ceiling and roof systems, piping systems and sewage technology. Turnover (1999): ATS 18.4 billion, 10,374 employees. E. Schaschl has been chairman of the board since 1981.
