Wimmer, Gottlieb August#
b. Vienna, Aug. 20, 1791, d. Vienna, May 12, 1863; Protestant minister, founder of schools, author of books on geography for the general public. Established a school centre at Oberschuetzen, Burgenland (three-year primary school and lower secondary school) and, in 1845, a training institution for pauper school teachers (the first four-year teacher training institution in Austria). Was forced to emigrate in 1848 because he supported the Hungarian rebels; returned to Vienna in 1863.
