Winkler, Franz#
b. Cvikov, Czech Republic (then Zwickau), March 20, 1890, d. Graz (Styria), Oct 16, 1945, agronomist and politician (member of the "Landbund" peasants' party). Member of the Styrian government from 1920-1930; member of the Nationalrat from 1930-1934; Minister of the Interior from 1930-1932; Vice-Chancellor from 1932-1933; chairman of the "Landbund" in 1932; founded the "Nationalstaendische Front" (movement in favour of the corporate state) in 1933. Since he objected to the Dollfuss Government's policy, which supported the "Heimwehr" (para-military force), fled to Czechoslovakia and Germany in 1934; was deprived of Austrian citizenship in 1936.
