Wittgenstein, Paul#
b. Vienna, Nov. 5, 1887, d. New York (USA), March 3, 1961, pianist. Son of Karl Wittgenstein, brother of Ludwig Wittgenstein. Lost his right arm in World War I. In 1916 continued his career as a one-armed piano virtuoso. Left Austria in 1938. (American citizenship in 1946). Many famous composers, including Franz Schmidt, E. W. Korngold, R. Strauss, M. Ravel, H. Gal and B. Britten wrote piano concertos that he could play with his left hand.
