b. around 1679, d. Vienna, Dec. 28, 1751. War Agent to the court ("Hofkriegsagent"), porcelain manufacturer; in 1718 received permission from the emperor to manufacture porcelain and built the first kiln in Rossau, Vienna (now part of 9th district), thus founding the second oldest porcelain factory in Europe. In 1744 he sold the factory to the state but retained supervisory control. The factory was closed in 1864 and re-established as the Porzellanmanufaktur Augarten Ges. m. b. H., Wiener (Augarten Porcelain Factory) in Vienna in 1923.
