Lake Sevan#
View of peninsula with some of the famous churches on a peninsula.Actually, this was an island only 20 years ago… but then various water-use projects caused a drop of the water level by 20 meters, converting some islands into peninsulas, some lake-bed sections into island… and creating a wide strip along the lakeshore into land to build on, or to grow trees or such.
However, the continuous drop caused much concern that lake Sevan would have the fate of lake Aral. To counteract this, some rivers have been diverted into the lake. Now the water-level is rising again, inundating land that by now is used for some purpose or another.
Current efforts are to stabilize the water level just a bit over the current one.
