Werner, Gregor Joseph#
b. Ybbs an der Donau (Lower Austria), Jan. 28, 1693, d. Eisenstadt (Burgenland), March 3, 1766, composer. Organist in Melk (1715/16), conductor at the court of Prince Paul II Anton Esterházy in Eisenstadt in 1728, where he set up the prince's orchestra which was taken over by J. Haydn as deputy-conductor in 1761, while W., who remained first conductor (Oberhofkapellmeister), was responsible for sacred music.
