Themost current version can always be found at http://www.doacanvas.org/. 4 Case Studies 4.1 RetroBrain R&DGmbH:MemoreBox Germany’s FederalMinistry ofHealth’sHealth InnovationHub responded, among others, to theCOVID-19 pandemic by compiling a list of recommendable “Digital Tools”, which eithermitigateCOVID-19directly or help address itswider societal impact (Health InnovationHub2020).Oneof the companiesmentionedon this list is digital-therapeutics company RetroBrain R&D, a spin-off of Humboldt- UniversitĂ€t’s Cluster of Excellence. RetroBrain R&D develops a fully gesture- controlled video game console named “memoreBox”, which has been called “a benchmark in the therapeuticgamiïŹcation industry” (LIFTBasel2015).Theoverall goal of RetroBrain’s solution is to extend the quality of life of the elderly by developing state-of-the-art, evidence-based therapeutic video games. The video game system—classiïŹed as a class 1 medical device—supports the prevention of typical age-related diseases and accompanies the therapy of diseases such as dementia or Parkinson’s disease.
