Albrechtsberger, Johann Georg#
b. Klosterneuburg (Lower Austria), Feb. 3, 1736, d. Vienna, March 7, 1809, musicologist and composer. Court organist (from 1772) and director of music at St. Stephen's Cathedral, Vienna, friend of J. Haydn, teacher of L. van Beethoven; renowned for his compositions of church music; champion of the polyphonic tradition.
