Arbeitsgemeinschaft Katholischer Verbaende Oesterreichs, AKV: Catholic lay organisation founded in 1954, comprises 20 member associations who work mainly in the youth supervision sector (e.g. the Austrian Kolpingwerk; members also include student associations, teachers´ associations, and recreational organisations. The approximately 1 million individual members form part of the lay apostolate and are active in society, in the workplace, the family and the church as recommended by the 2nd Vatican Council. The Arbeitsgemeinschaft awards the "Kardinal Opilio Rossi-Medaille" for outstanding services in the lay apostolate and the "Bischof DDr. Stefan László-Preis".
