Vigaun#

Vigaun, province of Salzburg, municipality in the district of Hallein, alt. 469 m, pop. 1,848, area 17.55 km2, tourist resort (122,608 overnight stays in 1992, majority in summer) in the Salzach Valley, near Hallein. - Spa resort with thermal bath (34° C), private St. Barbara hospital; spa tourism, sand and gravel plant. - Late Gothic parish church (documented mention in 790, new church built 1488-1516); old Tennengauer Einhof type farmhouses; stone walls used for demarcation purposes instead of the common wooden fences, Bruderloch cave with chapel in Riedl hill. Local custom: procession of marksmen in traditional costumes on Corpus Christi Day.
