b. Velike Jirny, Czech Republic (then Gross-Jirna near Brandeis), May 25, 1806, d. Atzgersdorf, Vienna, July 17, 1855. Geologist. Head geologist at the Imperial Geology Institute and court mining councillor; played a leading role in the geological mapping of Austria from 1835 on.
