b. Schwanberg (Styria) April 18, 1845, d. Vienna Oct. 27, 1925, conductor and composer. 1874 musical director of the Vienna Court Opera (conducted the première of "Tannhaeuser" at the Vienna Court Opera); conducted concerts held for Vienna society from 1880 onwards; 1884-1889 and 1898-1906 conductor of the Boston symphony concerts.
