Greifenburg#
Greifenburg, Carinthia, market town in the district of Spittal an der Drau, alt. 644 m, pop. 1,826, area 76.28 km2, summer holiday resort (54,840 overnight stays) and centre of the Upper Drau Valley, at the foot of the Kreuzeckgruppe mountains. - Wood-processing and construction industries, concrete works, cultivation of sweet chestnuts in the Kerschbaum cadastral district. - First documented in 1230; Late Gothic parish church, modified in 1521 and 1697; Late Gothic-Baroque cemetery church; castle (first documented in 1166, Gothic castle enlarged in the 17th century); River Drau statue (1869) on the Marktplatz square.
