Hörbiger, Paul#
b. Budapest (Hungary), April 29, 1894, d. Vienna, March 5, 1981, Kammerschauspieler, son of Hanns Hoerbiger, brother of Attila Hoerbiger. 1919 debut in Reichenberg, 1926-1940 engagements in the M. Reinhardt company in Berlin, an earthy and popular comedy actor at the Burgtheater in Vienna until 1943 and from 1965. Films included "Der Kongress tanzt" 1931, "Liebelei" 1933, "Fiakerlied" 1936, "Wr. G´schichten" 1940; from 1929 often partnered H. Moser) in films as a comedy duo. From 1943 in Austrian resistance movement, 1945 imprisoned, after the war guest performances and film work ("Der Hofrat Geiger", 1947; "Der Engel mit der Posaune", 1948; "Der dritte Mann", 1950; "Hallo Dienstmann", 1952; "Lumpazivagabundus", 1956). Awards: 1972 Girardi Ring, 1980 Nestroy Ring.
