Hamerling, Robert eigentlich Rupert Hammerling#
Hamerling, Robert (real name: Rupert Hammerling), b. Kirchberg am Walde (Lower Austria), March 24, 1830, d. Stifting near Graz (Styria), July 13, 1889, epic writer, poet, narrator, dramatist, secondary school teacher in Vienna, Graz and Trieste. Rose to fame especially with his epic poems "Ahasverus in Rom" (1865) and "Der Koenig von Sion" (1869). Great success with his novel "Aspasia" (1876), a novel about the manners and morals of the time and a work of cultural and historical interest. In his poetry H., a supporter of Bismarck, vehemently pleaded for the unification of all Germans.
