Herberstein, Oststeiermark, Schloss#
Herberstein Palace, eastern Styria, alt. 422 m, palace on a rock plateau above a gorge of the central Feistritztal valley (municipality of Stubenberg); built in the mid-13th century by Herwig von Stubenberg, since 1290 owned by the counts of Herberstein. Oldest parts of the building are the great hall and the keep (around 1300). The knights´ hall tract with the clock tower dates from the first half of the 17th century. "Florentinerhof" (1667) enclosed by arcades; St. Georg chapel with carved altar from the 17th century; Gothic St. Katharina chapel (mid-14th century) with frescoes; armoury; castle museum with exhibitions in the summer; zoological park.
