Hetztheater#
Baiting Ring (Hetztheater, Hetzamphitheater, Theater unter den Weissgerbern). In 1708 the first baiting ring was built in the Leopoldstadt district of Vienna; 1736-1743 a baiting ring was built on the Landstrasse (Vienna´s 3rd district) by the imperial court engineer A. Galli-Bibiena and the court sculptor Antonio Corradini; 1755 a wooden amphitheatre, seating 3,000 people, with 3 galleries was built in Vienna´s 3rd district, 1770 bought by the imperial theatre management authority and rented out, burnt down in 1796. Emperor Franz II later banned animal baiting and the baiting ring was not rebuilt.
