Himberg#
Himberg, Lower Austria, market town in the district of Wien-Umgebung, alt. 172 m, pop. 5,173, area 47.63 km2, industrial town on the Kalter Gang river in the northern part of the Vienna basin. - Research institute of Vienna University for the breeding of laboratory animals, golf course. About 60 % of all 2,042 employees (1991) work in the manufacturing sector: centre of the recycling industry in Lower Austria (recycling of waste and rubble, manufacture of granules, composting), chemical industry (e.g. silicone production), plastics industry (drain traps, mould-making), manufacture of sports and ski wear, packaging materials and seeds, manufacture of precast concrete units, print shop, metal-working industry, building trade; important commercial sector (building material, electronic elements, machinery, camper vans, etc.). - Gothic parish church with Romanesque (12th -13th centuries), high-Gothic and late-Gothic elements (choir 14th century, west tower 15th century); Velm Biedermeier palace (after 1800).
