Hohentauern, Styria, municipality in the district of Judenburg, alt. 1,274 m, pop. 616, area 91.96 km2, bi-seasonal tourism (56,292 overnight stays), mining community on the Hohentauern Pass, highest point of the Tauernstrasse road. Graphite mining on the Kaiserberg until 1993, magnesite mining in the "Sunk" ravine until 1991. Trade route since Roman times; St. Bartholomew parish church (14th century) with carved high altar (around 1750) by J. T. Stammel, choir (around 1490).
