Illwerke AG, Vorarlberger, electricity supplier with headquarters in Bregenz, previously subsidiary of Verbundkonzern with special status, largely owned by the province of Vorarlberg since 1999. Operates high-capacity power stations on the upper and middle sections of River Ill. The Obere Ill-Luenersee power station provides high-capacity energy; the Walgau power station delivers medium-capacity energy. The Luenersee and the Rodund I and Rodund II power stations convert energy stored from off-peak periods into high-capacity energy by pumped storage. Total annual capacity of water-driven turbines of the VIW amounts to 1,248 megawatts; annual electric production is 2.2 billion kilowatt-hours. The VIW supplies electricity to the federal provinces of Tirol and Vorarlberg and to the Energie Baden-Wuerttemberg AG, Karlsruhe, Germany. Shareholders are the province of Vorarlberg (95.5 %) and WEG-Wertpapiersges.m.b.H. Bregenz (4.5 %).
